AGRICULTURAL USES

Today's farmers have many needs for propane, and at Hicksgas we understand those needs. In fact many of our employee's are farmers, so we know what it takes to keep your farm working smoothly and efficiently.

Farms require many use's of propane such as:

• Heating for houses and outbuildings

• Motor fuel for tractors and other farm vehicles

• Hog and poultry confinements

• Stock tank heating

• Crop drying

• Irrigation

• Flame cultivation

Visit the Propane Council website for more information.

.

TANK MAINTENANCE

When you are a Hicksgas customer you also get the benefit of free tank maintenance. You take pride in your home and yard, so Hicksgas wants to keep our tanks looking good as well. We make every effort to level and paint our tanks on a 7 year schedule. This is an important piece in maintaining the gas system. A company that does not take care of its equipment probably won’t take care of you as a customer either. Some of our competitors have even been known to charge their customers to paint tanks or ask that the customer paint the tank for the company!

KEEP FULL ROUTING

The most worry free and cost effective delivery system for a propane customer is to be on Keep Full routing. Hicksgas uses a state of the art tracking system that monitors the outside temperature and wind conditions and then calculates your individual gas usage to determine when your tank needs to be filled. This allows us to provide you the piece of mind to know you never have to watch your tank gauge...that is our job. Hicksgas does also provide Will Call service for those customers who want to watch their own tank usage. However if a will call customer calls in out of gas or we have to make a special trip, there is a fee charged for this service. The best way for a customer to avoid costly extra charges is to be on the Keep Full system...let Hicksgas take care of the worries.

WHY SHOULD YOU USE PROPANE?

Propane is the preferred fuel for rural home heating in the Midwest. It is clean burning and efficient. One challenge we all face in the winter is keeping the air in our home from getting too dry. Many home owners even have to rely on humidifiers during the winter. Burning propane for heating produces a small amount of moisture which is important in the winter season to keep your home warm and comfortable.

.
Electricity produces a very dry heat that never feels as warm. It is that old saying the dry heat of the desert does not feel as hot as the same temperature in a humid climate. The same is true when heating your house. An inside temperature of 74 degrees produced with dry electric heat will never “feel” as warm as 74 degrees produced with propane.
.
Propane is also favored over fuel oil because it can be used as a universal fuel for all your appliances, water heater, clothes dryer, range and oven. Many fuel oil tanks are located in the home’s basement which can leave an unpleasant odor and present a serious problem should the tank develop a leak.

SALT

Hicksgas water conditioning systems eliminate hard water problems and make your water taste better. They remove calcium and magnesium from your water supply by filtering it through a resin-softening medium. Salt is used to revitalize the system periodically to provide soft water for your daily needs. These systems are designed and engineered to give you reliable operation and to conserve the water and salt required in the regeneration process.

Today, Hicksgas is still a family-owned and operated business. Hicksgas is also locally managed so your calls are handled by our knowledgeable office staff, not a voice mail system.

Our service technicians are formally trained and receive continuing education on propane and water conditioning issues. When you select Hicksgas, you're choosing people that take pride in their work and care about their customers.

RESIDENTIAL WATER

How Will Hicksgas Water Conditioning Benefit Me?

Hicksgas Conditioned Water makes a refreshing difference and saves you money!

Many water supplies contain hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium). These minerals form a scale and create problems in water heaters, washing machines, dishwashers, coffee makers, humidifiers and plumbing systems. Take a close look at all of the advantages and you'll find that conditioned water makes a refreshing difference in your life and will save you money now and in the years ahead.

Save Soap

Hard water impairs the cleansing strength of detergents. Conditioned water not only delivers greater washing power, it reduces soap requirements (up to 70%) and protects your washing machine at the same time.

Save Money

The cost of your cleaning supplies will drop dramatically with conditioned water because you'll use less soap, fewer harsh chemicals and detergents to get the job done.

Brighten Fabrics

Fabrics last longer, come out fresher, cleaner and softer when washed in conditioned water. Your colors stay brighter, too.

Have Cleaner Dishes and Glasses

Tired of streaks and spots on glassware and dishes? Conditioned water eliminates the problem, makes your dishes sparkle and helps your dishwasher last longer.

Protect Your Plumbing

Over a period of time scale forms to clog your plumbing. As the pipes clog, water flow is restricted and water pressure can be reduced dramatically. A water conditioning system minimizes this headache.

Extend Water Heater Life

Conditioned water adds longer life to your water heater by minimizing the scale build up created by hard water minerals. This saves you money, too. Less energy is required (17% to 21%) to heat water in tanks without a scale buildup.

Extend Faucet Life

Hard water scale corrodes and plugs valves in water-using appliances. This shortens their service life and costs you money.

End Skin Irritations

Red, roughened hands are usually the by-product of hardwater. Conditioned water caresses, it doesn't irritate. Say goodbye to razor burn as your razor glides smoothly over your soft water conditioned face.

Bathe Better

Bring conditioned water to your bath or shower and you will feel a refreshing difference. You'll wash "really clean" faster and without soap build up on your skin. A conditioned water shampoo revives hair color and makes it more radiant and manageable. You'll come away more relaxed and refreshed than ever before.

Reduce Cleaning Time

Washing floors, tile, and kitchen surfaces goes much easier and faster with contitioned water because it eliminates the film and soap scum that hard water causes.

Eliminate Stains

All your bathroom fixtures benefit from conditioned water. There will be no more unsightly bathtub rings, stains or mineral build up to darken your porcelain fixtures.

WHY USE A PROPANE POWERED FORKLIFT?

Propane forklifts are available for purchase or lease from dealers throughtout the country. Prices vary with age, condition, features and brand. The initial total investment of a propane forklift is lower than a comparable electric or diesel powered forklift. Plus they are cheaper to operate and maintain.

• Propane forklifts are very fuel-efficient. A 33-lb tank lasts an average of 8 hours.

• Propane has an indefinite storage life. It is not degraded by the length of time stored.

• Propane forklifts have less engine deposit build-up than gasoline or diesel powered forklifts which means fewer tune-ups.

COMPARING FORKLIFT COSTS
Fuel Typical Capital Cost Refueling Equipment Costs
Propane $16,000 - $22,000 Hicksgas will maintain on-site storage tank or have cylinder exchange program or on-site fueling.
Diesel $26,000 and higher $15,000
Electricity $22,000 - $35,000 $3,000 - $8,000 for battery charger and cranes. Cost of additional floor space not included.

HOW TO READ THE TANK % GAUGE

How much gas is in my tank?

This is one of the most common questions customers call in and ask. Well here is an easy way for you to be able to check it for yourself. All propane tanks are very similar in design but each one is a little different so the following description may not be exact for your tank but it should still be close.

.

Pretty much all tanks will have a liquid level gauge that will tell you what % full the tank is. Because the gauge is reading the liquid level it will be located on the top surface of the tank. If the tank’s lid is in the middle of the tank, the gauge will generally be mounted flat with the tank surface and outside of the lid.

Some tanks that have the lid on the end may have the gauge under the lid.

.
The gauge will be marked with numbers from 10 to 100. This is a % number so if the gauge needle is pointed to 62 then your tank is 62% full. If it is a 1000 gallon tank then you have approximately 620 gallons of gas in the tank. If it is a 500 gallon tank then you have approximately 310 gallons of gas in the tank. Please keep in mind that the tank gauge is not temperature compensated like the meters on the delivery trucks. These gauges are intended to show an estimate of the liquid level.

.

TANK SIZES AVAILABLE

Propane tanks come in a large variety of sizes to fit an individual customer’s needs. Tanks for residential use range from small 120 gallon tanks to 1,000 gallon tanks. A trained Hicksgas service representative will evaluate your potential gas usage based on the appliances you have, design of your home and your family’s lifestyle in order to select the appropriate size tank for you.

Ideally you want a tank size that requires between 2 and 5 fills per year. Anything less than two fills a year and you are keeping more gas on hand than you really need and that is an expense you don’t need. It is also a good safe practice for our drivers to be able to see your system once or twice per year. If your tank has to be filled more than 5 times in a year it is probably too small. Although product shortages are extremely rare, Hicksgas wants to be sure you have adequate storage to last a reasonable amount of time. Keeping our deliveries to your home at a minimum allows us to keep our costs in check and also be as unobtrusive as possible in your life.

.

Hicksgas maintains a very large inventory of domestic propane tanks to allow a timely installation for new customers. Generally tank sizes are 120, 250, 500, 750 and 1000 gallons. A typical home will usually need a 500 gallon tank. Large homes or ones with swimming pools or large shops may require a 1000 gallon tank.

Hicksgas also has 100# cylinder hook ups available for camp grounds, trailers, mobile homes, weekend cabins and other small volume users.

Underground propane tanks are also available from Hicksgas. These tanks have the benefit of being buried and out of sight in your yard. However they have a significant number of drawbacks. The installation requires an excavating contractor which can be expensive and any needed repairs can also be costly. Because the tank is underground it is more difficult to locate potential problems with the system. Lastly, if your area has even a modest snow, it can be difficult for the driver to locate the tank to be filled.

Does your propane retailer provide a thorough inspection, leak test and pressure test of your propane gas system for FREE? Hicksgas does. It is important for your family’s safety that your entire gas system be inspected both outside and inside the home to insure it is free from leaks and is installed to meet current safety codes. If your gas supplier just soaps the fittings looking for leaks and says everything is OK, then you got short changed.

.
Hicksgas will check your system for things like proper line size, appliance shut offs, sediment traps, proper regulators and gas leaks. We will also do a pressure test and leak test on the system. Propane is a very safe product and even an incorrect system installation may have worked for many years with no issues, but they do need to be repaired before they cause a serious problem. This System Check has an added benefit in that if you ever decide to sell your home the buyer will often require a home inspection and you will have the piece of mind knowing they shouldn’t have any issues with the gas system. And if you let your home owner’s insurance agent know you have a current System Check, they might even be able to get you a slightly reduced premium.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

Does your propane company offer a variety of payment options for your convenience? Hicksgas offers programs that fit your needs!

Budget Billing

The most hassle free payment plan we offer is budget billing. Hicksgas will calculate your estimated gas usage for the year and you then make an even payment for 11 months. In the 12th month your estimated usage is reconciled with your actual usage. Your account is then credited or billed based on the usage. This convenient plan takes the worry out of getting big gas bills in the winter by more evenly spreading them over the year. This worry free payment option provides the customer with Keep Full routing so you don’t have to worry about running out of gas, no special trip charges for out of gas service and you always get the discounted cash price provided you have made the budget payments on time.

Pay As You Go

Customers who wish to pay for their gas as it is delivered will receive a meter ticket for the gas at the time of delivery and a statement at the end of the month. If you pay by cash or check within 15 days of delivery you receive a prompt payment discount on the purchase.

Meter Service

We do also have meter service available for those customers who prefer to have their gas metered directly into the house and pay monthly as they use the gas. This service may not be available for all accounts.

Pre-Purchase

Hicksgas also offers a propane pre-purchase program that is available generally during late spring or early summer. This program allows the customer to purchase a portion of their gas needs for the year at a fixed price.

If you are ready for a change and want the piece of mind that you are getting professional service give Hicksgas a call or send us an email at mikem@hicksoffice.com. One of our knowledgeable staff members will contact you to discuss your propane needs.

LOOKING FOR PROPANE?

Propane is the preferred fuel for rural home heating in the Midwest. It is clean burning and efficient. One challenge we all face in the winter is keeping the air in our home from getting too dry. Many home owners even have to rely on humidifiers during the winter. Burning propane for heating produces a small amount of moisture which is important in the winter season to keep your home warm and comfortable.

Propane is also favored over fuel oil because it can be used as a universal fuel for all your appliances, water heater, clothes dryer, range and oven. Many fuel oil tanks are located in the home’s basement which can leave an unpleasant odor and present a serious problem should the tank develop a leak.

Why You Should Choose Hicksgas.

Be sure your propane retailer has a friendly, well trained and knowledgeable staff. The industry standard is the Certified Employee Training Program sponsored by the National Propane Gas Association. Hicksgas employees have proudly participated in this valuable training for over 16 years. We take great pride in the caliber of our staff not only for their knowledge but also for the concern they show our customers. CETP trained service technicians can help ensure your gas system is installed correctly for your family’s safety and that it operates as efficiently as possible. Poor installations are not only a safety hazard they can be very inefficient causing you to use more propane than necessary. Gas lines that are improperly sized will make your appliances perform at less than their peak and can cause them to soot up.

Our service technicians are not only trained to install and maintain your gas system we offer service as well:

• Convert a natural gas appliance to propane.
• Run additional gas lines for a new or moved appliance.
• Repair and installations of items such as gas logs, fire places, water heaters, space heaters, garage and shop heaters, and agricultural heaters and grain driers.

Hicksgas has many propane burning appliances available for our customers:

• Vented or un-vented heaters
• Garage heaters and tube heaters for your shop or business
• Patio heaters
• Water heaters
• Fire places & gas logs
• Gas grills

Best of all, unlike the mass merchandisers, Hicksgas will do installation, service and warranty repairs after your purchase.

Is Your Propane Company There When You Need Them?

Hicksgas provides 24 hour on call emergency service. If you have a problem and need us we will be there for you. In today’s day and age we know many families are dual income and it can be hard to stop in during the week, so our locations also have regular business hours from 8am until noon on Saturday for your convenience.

How does Hicksgas maintain dependability?

• Hicksgas maintains one of the most modern propane delivery fleets in the industry with over 65 bulk trucks. We also have the added back up of owning Rocket Supply Corp, which is one of the Midwest’s premier propane truck manufacturers. Hicksgas also operates a vehicle service facility staffed with ASME certified mechanics.

• Hicksgas has established ongoing relationships with numerous companies that produce and ship propane. Although shortages of propane in peak heating season are extremely rare, temporary supply disruptions at individual terminals do occur. During the course of a winter it is not uncommon for a refinery, production facility, pipeline or storage terminal to have a mechanical failure that can shut them down for some period of time. If your retailer does not have multiple suppliers, they could be caught with no source for product when you need it the most.

• Hicksgas owns over 2,000,000 gallons of propane storage in 44 strategic locations throughout our market to insure we have a steady supply of gas for our customers even when others may not. Hicksgas leases 3,000,000 gallons of additional storage to meet our peak winter needs.

• Hicksgas delivery trucks are all equipped with metering systems that will print a customer ticket so you have the peace of mind knowing you are getting what you are paying for. Our truck meters are checked annually by the state and certified for accuracy.

PROBLEM WATER?

How Will Hicksgas Water Conditioning Benefit Me?

Hicksgas Conditioned Water makes a refreshing difference and saves you money!

Many water supplies contain hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium). These minerals form a scale and create problems in water heaters, washing machines, dishwashers, coffee makers, humidifiers and plumbing systems. Take a close look at all of the advantages and you'll find that conditioned water makes a refreshing difference in your life and will save you money now and in the years ahead.
