AGRICULTURAL USES

Today's farmers have many needs for propane, and at Hicksgas we understand those needs. In fact many of our employee's are farmers, so we know what it takes to keep your farm working smoothly and efficiently.

Farms require many use's of propane such as:

• Heating for houses and outbuildings

• Motor fuel for tractors and other farm vehicles

• Hog and poultry confinements

• Stock tank heating

• Crop drying

• Irrigation

• Flame cultivation

Visit the Propane Council website for more information.

.

TANK MAINTENANCE

When you are a Hicksgas customer you also get the benefit of free tank maintenance. You take pride in your home and yard, so Hicksgas wants to keep our tanks looking good as well. We make every effort to level and paint our tanks on a 7 year schedule. This is an important piece in maintaining the gas system. A company that does not take care of its equipment probably won’t take care of you as a customer either. Some of our competitors have even been known to charge their customers to paint tanks or ask that the customer paint the tank for the company!

KEEP FULL ROUTING

The most worry free and cost effective delivery system for a propane customer is to be on Keep Full routing. Hicksgas uses a state of the art tracking system that monitors the outside temperature and wind conditions and then calculates your individual gas usage to determine when your tank needs to be filled. This allows us to provide you the piece of mind to know you never have to watch your tank gauge...that is our job. Hicksgas does also provide Will Call service for those customers who want to watch their own tank usage. However if a will call customer calls in out of gas or we have to make a special trip, there is a fee charged for this service. The best way for a customer to avoid costly extra charges is to be on the Keep Full system...let Hicksgas take care of the worries.

WHY SHOULD YOU USE PROPANE?

Propane is the preferred fuel for rural home heating in the Midwest. It is clean burning and efficient. One challenge we all face in the winter is keeping the air in our home from getting too dry. Many home owners even have to rely on humidifiers during the winter. Burning propane for heating produces a small amount of moisture which is important in the winter season to keep your home warm and comfortable.

.
Electricity produces a very dry heat that never feels as warm. It is that old saying the dry heat of the desert does not feel as hot as the same temperature in a humid climate. The same is true when heating your house. An inside temperature of 74 degrees produced with dry electric heat will never “feel” as warm as 74 degrees produced with propane.
.
Propane is also favored over fuel oil because it can be used as a universal fuel for all your appliances, water heater, clothes dryer, range and oven. Many fuel oil tanks are located in the home’s basement which can leave an unpleasant odor and present a serious problem should the tank develop a leak.

SALT

Hicksgas water conditioning systems eliminate hard water problems and make your water taste better. They remove calcium and magnesium from your water supply by filtering it through a resin-softening medium. Salt is used to revitalize the system periodically to provide soft water for your daily needs. These systems are designed and engineered to give you reliable operation and to conserve the water and salt required in the regeneration process.

RESIDENTIAL WATER

How Will Hicksgas Water Conditioning Benefit Me?

Hicksgas Conditioned Water makes a refreshing difference and saves you money!

Many water supplies contain hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium). These minerals form a scale and create problems in water heaters, washing machines, dishwashers, coffee makers, humidifiers and plumbing systems. Take a close look at all of the advantages and you'll find that conditioned water makes a refreshing difference in your life and will save you money now and in the years ahead.

Save Soap

Hard water impairs the cleansing strength of detergents. Conditioned water not only delivers greater washing power, it reduces soap requirements (up to 70%) and protects your washing machine at the same time.

Save Money

The cost of your cleaning supplies will drop dramatically with conditioned water because you'll use less soap, fewer harsh chemicals and detergents to get the job done.

Brighten Fabrics

Fabrics last longer, come out fresher, cleaner and softer when washed in conditioned water. Your colors stay brighter, too.

Have Cleaner Dishes and Glasses

Tired of streaks and spots on glassware and dishes? Conditioned water eliminates the problem, makes your dishes sparkle and helps your dishwasher last longer.

Protect Your Plumbing

Over a period of time scale forms to clog your plumbing. As the pipes clog, water flow is restricted and water pressure can be reduced dramatically. A water conditioning system minimizes this headache.

Extend Water Heater Life

Conditioned water adds longer life to your water heater by minimizing the scale build up created by hard water minerals. This saves you money, too. Less energy is required (17% to 21%) to heat water in tanks without a scale buildup.

Extend Faucet Life

Hard water scale corrodes and plugs valves in water-using appliances. This shortens their service life and costs you money.

End Skin Irritations

Red, roughened hands are usually the by-product of hardwater. Conditioned water caresses, it doesn't irritate. Say goodbye to razor burn as your razor glides smoothly over your soft water conditioned face.

Bathe Better

Bring conditioned water to your bath or shower and you will feel a refreshing difference. You'll wash "really clean" faster and without soap build up on your skin. A conditioned water shampoo revives hair color and makes it more radiant and manageable. You'll come away more relaxed and refreshed than ever before.

Reduce Cleaning Time

Washing floors, tile, and kitchen surfaces goes much easier and faster with contitioned water because it eliminates the film and soap scum that hard water causes.

Eliminate Stains

All your bathroom fixtures benefit from conditioned water. There will be no more unsightly bathtub rings, stains or mineral build up to darken your porcelain fixtures.

• Propane has an indefinite storage life. It is not degraded by the length of time stored.

• Propane forklifts have less engine deposit build-up than gasoline or diesel powered forklifts which means fewer tune-ups.

COMPARING FORKLIFT COSTS

HOW TO READ THE TANK % GAUGE

How much gas is in my tank?

This is one of the most common questions customers call in and ask. Well here is an easy way for you to be able to check it for yourself. All propane tanks are very similar in design but each one is a little different so the following description may not be exact for your tank but it should still be close.

.

Pretty much all tanks will have a liquid level gauge that will tell you what % full the tank is. Because the gauge is reading the liquid level it will be located on the top surface of the tank. If the tank’s lid is in the middle of the tank, the gauge will generally be mounted flat with the tank surface and outside of the lid.

Some tanks that have the lid on the end may have the gauge under the lid.

.
The gauge will be marked with numbers from 10 to 100. This is a % number so if the gauge needle is pointed to 62 then your tank is 62% full. If it is a 1000 gallon tank then you have approximately 620 gallons of gas in the tank. If it is a 500 gallon tank then you have approximately 310 gallons of gas in the tank. Please keep in mind that the tank gauge is not temperature compensated like the meters on the delivery trucks. These gauges are intended to show an estimate of the liquid level.

.
